The BC Family Hearing Resource Society is the largest agency in the province serving the families of children from birth to age five who are deaf or hard of hearing and/or who have speech and language learning challenges. BC Family Hearing Resource Centre (BCFHRC) is the name of our provincial program serving deaf and hard of hearing children.
Our family-centred services have evolved and grown over 25 years and are designed to meet the unique needs of very young children and their families. When care is family-centred, parents are an essential and equal partner in their children’s services. Our highly qualified clinicians are experts in speech, language, communication and hearing development, and work as a team to provide you with the most up-to-date treatment strategies. While our services are primarily directed toward children, we also help parents acquire the skills and information they need to help their children succeed. We conduct research, as well as provide training and consultation to other professionals across the province.
We are supported by the The Ministry for Children and Families Provincial Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, The Provincial Health Services Association - BC Early Hearing Program, the Elks and Royal Purple Organizations, Gaming, and other generous donors.
Our founders, Elks and Royal Purple of Canada, have generously supported our organization for the past 25 years, donating their time and contributing funds towards our continual improvement. Their commitment is deeply appreciated.
We are a CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accredited organization, and have therefore met internationally recognized standards of quality in the provision of our services.
"It was consistently observed that the staff of BC Family Hearing Resource Society takes a leadership role throughout the province, and staff members are very free with sharing their knowledge." - CARF Surveyor
