Hope for the Future
For parents of children who are deaf and hard of hearing, we find that one of the most impactful moments in their journey can be the first time they meet another person who is deaf or hard of hearing. It may be an older child, a teenager or an adult; many opportunities for meeting deaf and hard of hearing role models are provided at various times throughout your journey.
Our Role Models
At BCFHRS, we are proud to have on our staff Deaf and Hard of Hearing Role Models. These are adults with varying degrees of hearing loss/deafness and different backgrounds, but they all share a willingness to talk about their experiences growing up and living as individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing. Their insight is invaluable to our families as those families navigate their own children’s paths.
Many of our Deaf and Hard of Hearing Role Models are also Sign Language Consultants. They provide individual and group ASL sessions.
Whether it be through individual or group ASL sessions or at our events, all families are given opportunities to gain valuable knowledge about Deaf culture and identity.
