First Steps

As a parent of a newly identified deaf or hard of hearing child, you’ve likely been encouraged to explore early intervention programs. It is clear that starting intervention early, even when your child is an infant, leads to better communication skills, academic achievement, and social-emotional development.
For some parents, it may not come as a surprise to learn that their child is deaf or hard of hearing, but for many it is unexpected. Adapting to the new reality of having a child who is deaf or hard of hearing can look different for each individual and family.
Research tells us that no single approach is best for all deaf and hard of hearing children, and that every child is unique. We believe in providing support that is family centred, based on informed choice and evidence based, delivered with care, compassion and empathy and respect for diversity.
