Getting Started with Communication

Like other parents and guardians of an infant or child with hearing loss, you may be wondering how to begin.  Common challenges you may be facing include:

1. Verifying the diagnosis and coping with the reality of the hearing loss
2. Questioning what the future holds for your child
3. Making initial decisions about technology and communication methods
4. Learning about hearing loss and getting complete information about the hearing loss type, severity, and possibly the cause
5. Making appointments and traveling to receive services
6. Fitting into your busy schedule what needs to be done to help your baby get a good early developmental start. This may require you to take time off from work and make other schedule changes to attend appointments and participate in early intervention.
